How I Spent 5 Days In Havana

Cuba

Back in 2020, I’ve made the most exciting solo voyage in my life. I always wanted to experience this incredible country, Cuba. During my visit, I’d seen most of the major attractions in the capital. I spent a total of 5 days in Havana. Before my trip, I downloaded a map of Cuba to be able to use it offline. The weather was very pleasant, even during the rain the night I arrived.

I ended up packing the following clothing and accessories:

  • Black bodysuit, black trousers, black leggings, and black round neck sweater with flared sleeves
  • Jacket, sweatshirt, and a scarf as I had transit in Paris airport in January, though it was helpful in Cuba too
  • Long polka dot dress, 2 stripped blouses, flowery blouse, and colorful top
  • Straight ripped blue jeans, 2 pairs of blue denim shorts, black belt
  • Black sweatsuit
  • Bali straw crossbody bag, black bag
  • Few pairs of sandals and flip-flops, black loafers.
  • Stud earrings, watch

P. S. I packed some extra tops and dresses, however, didn’t wear them.

I summarized how I spent my days below along with the most unforgettable details of the travel.

DAY 1

Around 1 am: I landed on Wednesday early morning, so it´s my first day in Cuba. It was a rainy night, and I was told that rain usually doesn´t happen at that time of the year, good I´ve checked the weather forecast before my trip. I was picked up at the airport by my host and we went to my accommodation in a cute blue vintage car. The driver spoke the only local language, so my a bit of Spanish knowledge was really helpful. There were quite a lot of people on the streets of La Habana Vieja during our ride, the restaurants were full of people, and the mix of reggae, hip-hop, and salsa could be heard everywhere. I prepared to sleep, but it turned out that I caught a cold during my transit and long way, and was feeling very sick. I took some painkillers and went to bed.

Around 9 am: I got up, feeling a bit better. First thing I went out to the balcony to enjoy the view of Plaza. It was so beautiful. I did some warm-up exercises and went to the kitchen.

10 am: I had a delicious breakfast, which consisted of fruits, eggs, vegetables, bread with some salty butter, coffee, and tea. It cost me 5 Euros and it was prepared by my sweet host Maria.

11 am: After that I took shower, put some make-up on, dressed up, and went out to explore Havana. I was impressed by the small streets of Old Havana, beautiful vintage cars, great music, and lovely people. And then I found it, El Capitolio Nacional de La Habana, the must-visit place. And next to it was Gran Teatro de la Havana, one more famous and graceful building of Cuba.

12:30 pm: I went to the Park Central hotel to book a tour to Viñales. Then I had a walk through Paseo del Prado, admiring the beautiful architecture. I saw a Spanish Embassy, National Ballet School, and others.

2 pm: I reached El Malecon and met a kind local, who helped me to get an internet card (I finally called my mum and updated my friends that I’m fine) and made an excursion to Castillo del Morro. From there I saw the monumental sculpture ‘El Cristo de la Habana’.

3 pm: I came back to El Malecon by bus. Here you can see the atmosphere:

3:30 pm: I finally went to one of the local restaurants in Old Havana to get my lunch and my favorite cocktail Canchanchara.

4:30 pm: I came back to my accommodation and bought some water and fruits on my way. You can’t drink the tap water in Cuba. I relaxed a bit, listening to the music on the balcony that could be heard from La Vitrola restaurant, which was just downstairs.

7 pm: I changed to the warmer outfit and went for a walk in the night Havana. It is amazing both day and night.

9 pm: I reached home and slept around 10pm.

DAY 2

I started my day with breakfast at 9 am, and at noon headed to explore Havana again. On my way, I bought a hat which was not only super cool but also very necessary during my trip. This time I began with El Malecon. I took a ride to have a look at the stunning scenery.

Around 3 pm I had a tour on a beautiful pink classic car through the whole city:

Classic car tour

At 4:30 pm I was back in Old Havana for some lunch. And as I still felt a bit sick, I had Canchanchara with my food again. A lovely caring waiter added some ginger to the cocktail. It was delicious and very good for my throat. After that, I bought some souvenirs and came back to my accommodation to relax a bit.

I went to bed earlier, as the next day I had a tour to Viñales, which meant that I had to get up much earlier.

DAY 3

I got up at 6 am, had some fruits for breakfast, and at 7 went to the Parque Hotel where a bus was waiting to go for a tour to Viñales. The bus was almost full, I had a seat next to a nice lady. We reached Viñales Valley at 10:30 am, where we made our first stop to look at the beautiful scenery and to get some souvenirs. I got the awesome purse and some magnets.

At 11:30 am we got to the cigar fields where we listened to the story about how cigars are made.

After an hour I was able to try a delicious Macondo drink (pineapple juice with cane syrup).

At 1 pm I had a chance to see Mural de la Prehistoria.

At 2 pm we had our lunch. I enjoyed the most Pina Colada drink.

And lastly, around 3:30 pm we took a boat inside Indian Cave.

I reached Havana at 7 pm. It was a very delightful but tiring day.

DAY 4

I got up a bit late, around 10 am had my breakfast and at noon was ready to go for a walk again. I started with Canchanchara at one of the restaurants in the Plaza where I was staying.

I had my lunch at 3 pm in El Floridita restaurant, where I spend around 4 hours, finally being able to connect to the internet. On my way back I bought some souvenirs, and tried some Churros, super delicious.

At 8:30 pm I finally went to a salsa party at an amazing rooftop bar with a fascinating view at Inglaterra Hotel, where I saw people dancing salsa for the first time. I had my Mojito cocktail and was waiting for a party to start. Since then I fell in love with salsa. I met a handsome guy Yunior who was so kind to teach me a bit of dancing. He is a dance teacher too. So it was my evening.

I reached home around midnight. I started to fell in love with Cuba more and more. And it was my last night here.

DAY 5

10 am: After my breakfast I tried to arrange my things and by noon went out for my last walk, or almost last. I met my new friend Yunior who showed me Casa Blanca, one of the nicest places in Havana. We got there by boat.

2 pm: We had some fruits like pineapples and coconut water for lunch and then we went to explore Casa Blanca.

4 pm: It was time to go back to finish packing.

5:30 pm: I had my last Café Bombon and said bye to my neighbors.

6 pm: On my way to the airport. It was one of the saddest moments.

Cuba took my heart and some part of me will always stay there. Such a different, beautiful colorful place stays in my memory forever. I do believe one day I can get here again and make more memories.

OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS:

Grab snacks at: El Floridita, rooftop bar at Hotel Inglaterra, La Vitrola, and restaurants around Plaza Vieja

Dish: Local Cuban food

Drinks: Canchanchara, Café Bombon

Attraction: La Habana Vieja, El Capitolio, El Malecón, El Castillo del Morro, El Cristo de la Habana, Casa Blanca, Parque John Lennon, Paseo del Prado/Parque Central

Tour: Viñales, classic car tour, Trinidad, Varadero

Stay at: Casa Particular

If I had an extra day in Cuba, I would have taken a tour to Trinidad and Varadero.

P. S. Everything I did is saved to the Highlights on my Instagram. Feel free to swipe through for more.

I hope you enjoyed reading my posts about my trip to Cuba. It’s a must-visit country.

Everything You Need To Know If You’re Planning A Trip To Cuba

What area did I stay in? Is it cheap or expensive? Is English spoken there? Or if you need some word of advice about a trip to Cuba, you will find your answers in this post. Welcome to The Glamorous Muse!

Cuba
La Habana Vieja

From tasty food and magnificent nature, I’d like to share some useful information that I would have loved to know before discovering Cuba so that my tips can notify and inspire your upcoming voyage.

Travel budget: It is all individually, but the most necessary expenses will include tickets, accommodation, insurance, and visa or travel card if you need one. Then you add transportation inside the country, pick-up, and drop-off from and to the airport. Add also costs of your activities, food, and souvenirs.

Weather: Make sure to check the weather forecast before you plan your trip to avoid rainy days.

Currency: You will get the highest rate exchange from Euro or Sterling rather than from US Dollars. I was using Euros. In Cuba, two currencies were used: Cuban Peso for locals (CUP) and Cuban Convertible Peso (CUC) for tourists. 1 EUR = 1 CUC.

Electricity: It is recommended to bring an adaptor to Cuba, however you could ask about it while booking the accommodation for your stay, I believe the modern hotels provide it.

Communication: It is always good to learn some local language, so a bit of Spanish will help you a lot in Cuba, however, English is spoken too.

Transportation: As for a tourist, a taxi will be your main transportation. For me, I used it only from and to the airport. And it cost me 50 Euros for airport pick up in a vintage car and 30 Euros for drop-off, but it was a usual taxi. I enjoyed walking a lot through the impressive streets of Havana. Though there are buses mostly used by locals, I’ve got a chance to try it too. You can also use a boat, if you want to go to Casa Blanca, for example. It’s a marvelous place.

Accommodation: I would recommend staying in La casa particular, located in the center of Old Havana as it is the best way to dive into Cuban culture and to live like a local. There are a lot of options to choose from.

Shopping: You can find shops and shopping centers in Havana too. I was buying some souvenirs and paintings, you can also get the famous Cuban cigars, a bottle of rum or a coffee, Cuban straw hat.

Food: There are plenty of restaurants everywhere in Havana. You can enjoy the delicious food and try the famous drinks like Mohito, Pina Colada, Daiquiri or my favorite Canchanchara (rum with honey and lime juice) – the best cocktail I’ve ever tried. And Cafe Bombon was my favorite. I recommend El Floridita, La Vitrola, restaurants around Plaza Vieja and rooftop bar at Hotel Inglaterra with an incredible view where I had my mojito and learned some salsa steps 🙂

Things to do: Walk in Old Havana, Plaza Vieja, Plaza De La Cathedral, visit El Capitolio, Gran Teatro de la Habana, Museum of Revolution, Castillo del Morro, John Lennon Parque. Take a ride in a vintage car, walk through the Malecon, Parque Central & Paseo Del Prado, take a boat to Casa Blanca, take salsa classes, go to salsa party, visit Trinidad, Varadero, Viñales valley, Indian Cave, Mural de la Prehistoria, ride a horse.

P. S. I haven’t visited Trinidad and Veradero, but it’s a must-go places too if you are staying in Cuba a bit longer than myself 🙂

Other helpful hints: One of the necessary things to do before you travel – to download an offline map. Also, I’d recommend bringing toilet paper, as there are places in public which have very little or don’t have it at all. It’s good to bring some shower gels or shampoos, and some medicine like painkillers as small gifts to your hosts. Cubans appreciate tips, even very small. The internet connection is quite complicated, you will need to buy a card and find a WI-FI to connect. The best one for me was at the Floridita restaurant in Old Havana. A painting from Cuba – must-buy souvenir. And last, bring some comfortable shoes as you will be walking a lot.

Cuba

Parque Central

Viñales Valley

Why I’ve chosen the Caribbean destination for my first solo trip.

What do we know about Cuba and what is the first thing that comes into our minds when we hear this nice word? Cigars, rum, salsa, Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, and probably exotic Caribbean beaches. In my case, it was El Capitolio, beautiful colorful old buildings, vintage cars, Latin music and pleasant warm climate.

This trip was to happen at the end of January last year, just before the pandemic. And I’m really glad that I could make it. I began planning a trip to Cuba for my winter holidays just a few weeks before it started. It was really fun, from visiting the embassy to going on a plane.

The hardest part about planning a trip, in my case, was to choose a destination and to break all the fears which were trying to stop me. One appeared when I told my friends I’m going there alone, everyone started to tell me that it is quite dangerous. But in my case, it was a completely safe trip and if you think about visiting Cuba on a solo, you should try it. If I did it, you can do it too. So hopefully this post will inspire you to travel solo if you haven’t done this before or to choose Cuba as your next destination, as it is the most incredible place I’ve ever seen. Thinking About A Year In Quarantine

Victoria

Hi everyone and welcome to The Glamorous Muse! It’s been a year since the pandemic officially began and we have to stay at home and wear a mask whenever we leave the house. Everything has been locked down. The situation has changed all of our lives, all of us. A lot of people have lost their jobs, many had to work from home and everyone had to change their lifestyle. We travel less, going out less, but we spend more time at home, with our loved ones. Family is the most important part of one’s life, and I think must be appreciated. It is the place where we find love, peace, support, motivation, joy, happiness. I appreciate staying with my family now as I’ve been always far away.

How about your habits? How did they change? As for me, I started eating healthier, working out more, spending money less, reading and watching movies a lot, improving my Spanish knowledge, and finally started my first blog.

With vaccine coming the pandemic will hopefully decrease very soon, we will be able to get back to our jobs, and we finally will be able to travel more. And for now, let’s value our time and make the most of it.

HOW DID QUARANTINE CHANGE YOUR LIFE?

The spring season is already in, and with its arrival, everyone is disturbed with a question: What to wear? This question doesn’t give any rest to every fashionista. Lately, and especially after the pandemic entered the globe, women’s clothing is becoming simpler and more comfortable, however, not less fascinating. 2021 is a royal year in fashion. Female attire is inspired by regency, rococo, renaissance eras. It is a perfect time to renew your wardrobe from winter attire and beautify yourself in bright pastel colors like millennial pink, soft lavender, light azure, and creamy mint.

Themes For The Spring/Summer 2021

Flower Motifs

Tom Ford Spring 2021 – https://pin.it/3eYZ42Z

From flower-patterned dresses to the floras on the shoes and accessories, the designers like Tom Ford, Elie Saab, Valentino seem to be inspired by the beauty of roses this season. The romantic perception florescence with the Tom Ford and Valentino.

Mini-Skirts

Alberta Ferretti Spring 2021 – https://pin.it/7cqdNo1

The sixties’ influence is coming back in 2021 with minis. One of the most epochal pieces of new millenary style queens one more time. This piece of the closet can look very classy and stylish. On the runway, the designers Alberta Ferretti, Isabel Marant, Miu Miu presented mini-skirts, mini-shorts, and mini-dresses. The length was balanced with the help of shirts, sweaters, turtlenecks, and jackets. A practical and comfortable pair of slingbacks or mules on kitten heels is a reliable ally for mini-skirts in the new season. The looks appeared interesting and elegant.

Wide-Leg, Roomy Trousers

Alberta Ferretti Spring 2021 – https://pin.it/7m9swnu

Appeared in far thirties, and inspired by the seventies, they became popular last year, and in 2021 are undoubtedly used to create everyday outfits. Wide trousers will perfectly fit any body type and create the right proportions. During spring and summer, you can create plenty of trendy looks. This tendency might even become one of the basic things in the wardrobe. Look at the models of Jacquemus, Alberta Ferretti, Chanel.

Oversized Shoulderpad Boyfriend Jackets

Celine Spring 2021 – https://pin.it/6elTgqn

The eighties are the inspiration behind the Celine, Louis Vuitton, and Valentino collection. Oversized Shoulderpad Boyfriend Jackets with a pair of straight-leg trousers or shorts and combined with a bra or corset-inspired top will make your look glamorous.

Bralettes

Jason Wu Spring 2021 – https://pin.it/1rJlCdz

First seen in the mid-to-late sixties, bralettes became a favorite among the influencers and celebrities, as it gives the figure correct accents. You can wear it with a wide-leg trouser suit like Etro or Jason Wu, which will add a touch of sexuality to it. You can combine it with oversized shirts with a standard cut, donning it on top of it. Such wardrobe elements can fully become basic and obligated.

Dolce & Gabbana Primavera Verano 2021 – https://pin.it/1PY8XDr

Barely looking out bra has gained importance in this season. The designers recommend brake old rules. You can wear dresses with a deep cutout and wear underneath contrasting bralette or get a ready solution from brands such as Dolce&Gabbana, Versace. Corset-inspired pieces are trendy while choosing a garment for your upper body.

Denim

Chanel Resort 2021 – https://pin.it/7kdcPvg

Denim has been always in fashion, but its color, length, cut and aspect constantly change. In 2021, the nineties oversized blue denim became a trend look. The most popular model was a flare, combined with oversized shirts, tops, T-shirts, and others. Check out Valentino, Chanel, Victoria Beckham. You can choose white shoes and add a stylish bag and hat to the outfit.

Victorian Puff Sleeves

Cinq à Sept Spring 2021 – https://pin.it/72EkN0i

Inspired by the stylish Queen Victoria, super puff sleeves again appeared among the trends in the spring/summer 2021 season. You can see it almost in every collection, especially in the Cinq à Sept, Carolina Herrera.

Collars

Rebecca Taylor Spring 2021 – https://pin.it/5A9Lqjb

16th century accessorize will add some touch of retro-style to your look. You can wear it with jackets, sweaters, T-shirts, and dresses. Collars will become a great accent and interesting “ingredient” in your style.

Disco Style

Balmain Spring 2021 – https://pin.it/1ZzO1Th

The disco trend was commonly influenced by garments from the early sixties. On the runway appeared dresses, suits, skirts, shirts, and accessories in such a style. Balmain’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection was inspired by disco. Such things look best while combined with usual and basic garments, and styled with structured and monochromatic accessories.

Knitwear

Batsheva Spring 2021 – https://pin.it/LzmNtmH

You can choose between sweaters, turtlenecks, cardigans, and lingerie. My favorite is Alberta Ferretti and Batsheva knitwear.

To accessorize your outfits, try on tinted shades sunglasses with yellow and orange lenses and Bottega Veneta’s trendy cassette shoulder bag, puffy quilting. And don’t forget about the black face mask to protect yourself.

These trends are sure to improve your spring/summer wardrobe collection in 2021. Have a good time, be original and sparkle this season with these outstanding outfits!

The Best Inspirational Quotes About Spring

spring
“Spring will come and so will happiness. Hold on. Life will get warmer.” Anita Krizzan

Welcome to The Glamorous Muse! It’s the time of the year when everything in nature is changing and promising new life and new hope. It’s springtime here!
This has always been my favorite time of the year. Blue sky, longer clear days, and warm evenings reflect your inner happiness. My Birthday is in spring too 🙂

While spring is bringing out the beautiful colors, I thought it would be a good time to begin my first blog, centered around things that I love and share them with other people, bringing some inspiration.

Here are some of my best inspirational quotes about spring:

“The promise of spring’s arrival is enough to get anyone through the bitter winter.” Jen Selinsky.

“Spring adds new life and new beauty to all that is.” Jessica Harrelson.

“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant.” Anne Bradstreet.

“Spring is the time of plans and projects” Leo Tolstoy.

And my favorite inspirational quote about spring: “Spring will come and so will happiness. Hold on. Life will get warmer” by Anita Krizzan.

Hello & Welcome To My Blog

Victoria

Hi, everyone! Welcome to the launch of The Glamorous Muse, my fresh website, and my first blog post. My name is Victoria Zaviiska and I am very excited to share with you my lifestyle.

Why I started my blog?

As a student of English language and literature, I always write and read a lot. It even started a long time before, as reading and writing was my biggest passion since I was a child. And the idea of having my blog came into my mind a long time ago. However, being busy with my study at first and work later, I couldn’t decide on many things, that’s why it was always postponed. And finally now, when I have a lot of free time, one of my goals comes true.

I have finally realized all the benefits that blogging can bring and have become completely consumed with inspiration to start a blog The Glamorous Muse.

From my point of view, it is fun and it is something I enjoy doing.

Blogging gives you freedom, nobody will tell you what to do, how to do it, and when to do it.

It’s a great way to express yourself, boost your confidence, and improve your writing and speaking skills.

And one of the best things is inspiring and sharing a piece of knowledge with others, meeting like-minded people. If my blog can help others in any way, I will be overjoyed with my work.

Anyone can start a blog. Very few people start a blog that matters.

Victoria

What will you see in my posts?

I am currently taking a Fashion Journalist course, so I will be writing about the main topics you can see in fashion magazines or websites. But you will see much more of the face behind The Glamorous Muse (me), and a mixture of lifestyle including my favorite fashion finds, products, travel tips, healthy recipes, and other things.

After doing some research and seeing the posts of top bloggers, I have become consumed with motivation to write articles and share my insights with the help of The Glamorous Muse.

And last, but not least, English is not my first language, and I am not a writing expert, so please feel free to always share your advice and communicate with me en route.

You can get in touch with me on social media or through email from the Contact page.

I hope you enjoy my blog and please feel free to make any requests! 🙂
